2000-2009
Upper Deck became the top hockey card manufacturer during the 2000s; Young Guns and Future Watch became the hobby's universally accepted rookie cards, though others also prevailed. Due to NHLPA licensing rules, several goalies received Young Guns cards despite only dressing as backups and never appearing in an NHL game; these players can be found in the "Backups" gallery. Card quality improved with thicker card stock and better printing technology, although some releases were prone to chipping at the edges and corners, making high-grade examples difficult to find. The best-known example is the 2003–04 Marc-André Fleury Young Guns rookie card, whose notorious corner chipping has made PSA 10 copies the most valuable graded Young Guns goalie rookie card today.
