The 1950s are widely regarded as the golden age of vintage hockey cards. Parkhurst and Topps featured new vibrant designs, bold colours, and flexichrome colouring that depicted goaltenders in dynamic action poses. One of the era's most iconic issues was the 1951 Parkhurst set, affectionately known by collectors as the "Parkie" set. Produced in a compact 2 × 3⅛-inch format to reduce printing and packaging costs, the cards were sold primarily to children. The decade produced some of the hobby's most iconic goalie rookie cards.
