1980-1989
The 1980s were a defining decade for goalie hockey cards, with both O-Pee-Chee and Topps as the only two producers on the market. Topps produced cards and licensed them to O-Pee-Chee, which were printed in Canada on rougher card stock. Many collectors believe they were also printed in smaller quantities, making them scarcer than Topps cards. Quality control for both companies was inconsistent throughout the decade, with off-centering, rough cuts, and print defects being common. Many goalie rookies were photographed maskless during warm-ups.
